TextureStone – Vancouver 2010

In preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympics, the City of Vancouver needed a solution for repairing concrete decks, walkways and stairways and making these high traffic areas both safe and aesthetically pleasing. These facilities were severely deteriorated due to years of exposure to salts and chemicals used to melt ice and snow from their surfaces. As an added challenge, since these were in high traffic, public areas, they could only be closed to traffic for brief periods of time and needed to be re-opened as quickly as possible. TextureStone was selected as a decorative and safe solution. TextureStone is an eco-friendly, breathable coating system which offers excellent chemical resistance, rapid cure time and an attractive, non-slip, durable wearing surface.

Surface preparation involved removal of all broken and loose concrete and pressure washing to clean the surfaces. ECO Mineral Rapid Set Patching Polymer was used to patch holes and broken areas; ECO Weld Rapid Set Polyurea Joint and Crack Sealant used to seal cracks and joints. These rapid setting products allowed application of the primer within one hour. ECO Seal Water-Based Epoxy Primer was used in order to provide a fully breathable system. TextureStone was then applied to the horizontal and vertical concrete surfaces with a low pressure sprayer. Stair nosings were sprayed in safety yellow by masking off the stair treads and risers after the grey base coat was applied. Once the coating had set, ECO Seal Single Component Water-Based Polyurea Sealer was then roller applied to the surface and the facilities opened to traffic the next day.

TextureStone is an eco-friendly product, made with water-based polyurea binder and recycled aggregate, blended together at the factory in convenient pre-proportioned kits. It is available in 16 decorative colors and provides a seamless, non-slip coating which is attractive, durable and easy to maintain. Designed to withstand rigorous service and freeze-thaw conditions, TextureStone offers superior weathering and chemical. It is easy to apply with a low pressure spray unit (such as a Marshalltown Enforcer). Since TextureStone is water-based, cleanup is simple – no hazardous solvents are needed.

TextureStone is rapid-curing, allowing fast traffic access within 8 hours. It is an eco-friendly product, which contains no harmful VOC’s and is low odor. It may be used for interior and exterior applications. TextureStone meets USDA/FDA/CFIA requirements for use in food facilities. TextureStone is a Green Building Material which qualifies for LEED credits.

The TextureStone system provides a superior wearing surface, which is attractive, weather and chemical resistant.
