Rail Car Coatings

Our polyurea was selected as a coating to protect rail hopper cars carrying coal and other materials for the Wisconsin Power & Electric Authority. A tough coating was required to protect the steel and aluminum surfaces from constant impact and abrasion and to provide a smooth load release when cargo is loaded and unloaded from the hopper cars.

The surfaces were first acid washed and primed with our water-based epoxy primer to ensure optimum adhesion. Our rapid-setting polyrea coating was then applied with a plural component spray machine. Zinc dust was added into the coating to ensure optimum corrosion resistance.

Our coatings prolong the service life of the rail cars and help prevent contamination of freight. They provide an excellent barrier from aggressive cargo like rock salt, coal and various acids. In addition, they seal the interior surfaces of hopper cars and tank cars used to transport chemicals and sensitive commodities. Our polyurea is a tough, low maintenance coating, designed to provide superior long-term performance under rigorous service conditions.

Our coatings can either be applied with spray equipment or with a roller. Aggregate may be broadcast into the coatings to provide a textured, non-slip finish for an extra measure of safety.

Our coatings meet USDA/FDA/CFIA requirements for incidental food contact and for use in regulated food facilities. Some of our coatings also provides anti-graffiti protection.
